A First for St Lucia
Elephants in the Estuary
iSimangaliso Wetland Park
A truly rare and remarkable sighting took place over the weekend in St Lucia South Africa, when Elephants where spotted in the St Lucia Estuary. This is a very first and what a sighting. Elephants are common in the western shores of iSimangaliso Wetland Park, however we have never seen them in the water as the water is brackish (salty).
Shoreline Boats was one of the first vessels to view this astonishing sight (skipper Stacey Farrell). It was incredible as after living in the area all of my life this was a first, I almost thought I was in Botswana.
We truly hope this sight becomes more frequent as it adds so much more value to the area, St Lucia was proclaimed as a world heritage site in 1999 by Unesco and is South Africa's very first world heritage site.
